Terms of Use
Living Devo
1. Acceptance of these terms
By accessing or using Living Devo (the “App”), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
These terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.
2. Not a substitute for professional or emergency help
Living Devo is designed as a spiritual reflection and Scripture navigation tool. It is NOT medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice.
The App DOES NOT provide therapy, diagnosis, treatment, or crisis intervention of any kind.
The App CAN NOT and WILL NOT:
- MONITOR your safety or well-being in real time
- DETECT when you are in crisis or at risk of self-harm
- CONTACT emergency services, family, or friends for you
- REPLACE professional counseling, medical care, or crisis lines
You are responsible for seeking appropriate in-person help when you are struggling, especially with thoughts of self-harm, harm to others, or any situation that feels unsafe.
Stop using the app and reach out for immediate help.
In the U.S., you can call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
If you are outside the U.S., please contact your local emergency number or a trusted local crisis hotline.
3. Accounts, data, and privacy
At this stage, Living Devo is intentionally simple and lightweight. You are not required to create an account to use the core App.
The App currently DOES NOT require a username, password, email address, or profile to use core features.
Some features may store small pieces of information locally on your device (for example, recent questions or last-read plans) so you can pick up where you left off. This information is held in your browser or device storage, not on a central server.
For more details, please see the Privacy & Data Use page.
4. Spiritual nature of the content
Living Devo is a spiritual and devotional tool rooted in the Christian faith. It offers prompts, themes, and Scripture suggestions to help you engage with the Bible.
The App DOES NOT claim to speak for God, guarantee spiritual outcomes, or replace the Bible, the Holy Spirit, or the local church.
You remain responsible for how you interpret and apply anything you read in the App, and you are encouraged to test everything against Scripture, prayer, and wise counsel.
5. External websites and resources
The App may include optional links to external sites (for example, BibleGateway, Blue Letter Bible, YouVersion, church websites, or other tools).
These external sites are not controlled by Living Devo. We DO NOT endorse, guarantee, or take responsibility for:
- The accuracy or completeness of their content
- Their privacy practices or data use
- Any ads, products, or messaging they show you
When you leave the App and visit another site, you are subject to that site’s own policies and terms.
6. No guarantees and limitation of liability
Living Devo is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We make no guarantees about availability, accuracy, or suitability for any particular purpose.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Living Devo and its creators WILL NOT be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising out of or in any way connected with:
- Your use or inability to use the App
- Any decisions you make based on content in the App
- Any reliance on spiritual, emotional, or practical suggestions in the App
- Any third-party content or external sites you visit from the App
You use the App at your own risk and are responsible for seeking professional or pastoral help where appropriate.
7. AI-powered suggestions
Certain parts of the App may use AI-powered suggestions to help you reflect, ask questions, frame emotions, or discover relevant Scriptures and themes.
These tools are meant to be supportive, not authoritative. They are designed to:
- Help you slow down and pay attention
- Surface themes you may not have noticed
- Encourage prayerful reflection
- Point you back to Scripture
- Offer gentle prompts, not conclusions
To protect your spiritual journey, we’ve intentionally built strict boundaries around how AI is used. The AI:
- DOES NOT track you or store your searches as a personal profile
- DOES NOT make decisions for you
- DOES NOT replace Scripture, prayer, or wise counsel
- WILL NOT claim spiritual authority or absolute truth
AI output is not guaranteed to be theologically complete, perfect, or tailored to every situation. It may occasionally be incomplete, imperfect, or off-target — this is normal for emerging technology.
You agree that you WILL NOT treat AI-generated text as infallible truth, and you WILL NOT make spiritual, emotional, relational, or safety decisions based solely on what the AI suggests. Always test everything against Scripture, prayer, wise counsel, and, where appropriate, professional advice.
AI is a reflection tool — helpful, supportive, and designed with guardrails. But it is never a substitute for Scripture, prayer, or trusted spiritual community.
8. Changes to the App or these terms
We may update, modify, or discontinue parts of the App at any time, including features, content, or design.
We may also update these Terms of Use from time to time. When we do, we will adjust the “last updated” date below. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.
9. Contact
If you have questions about these terms, the heart behind the App, or how Living Devo is intended to be used, you can reach out any time at foundercw@livingdevo.org.
